Introduction: time is life and life is time. Time is more valuable than health and wealth.
Nature of time: ‘art is ling, but time is short.’ Our life is nothing but a sum-total of hours, days and years. Time once gone is gone forever. The man has a lot of duties to perform during his short span of life. Newton says, ‘one life is not enough for a man to finish his work.’ So every moment of a man’s life is very precious. It is more precious than anything else on earth. Everyone should remember that time no time to stand and stare. We cannot call back our lost time even with all the wealth of the world.
Evils of wasting time: many are the evils of wasting time to waste time means to a short life. Wasting time is a great crime. It is like committing suicide. It leads a man to miseries and ruin. Idleness is the root of all evils. ‘An idle brain is the devil’s workshop’ goes a well-known saying. Napoleon lost the battle of Waterloo for the failure of his general to turn up in the nick of time.
Time and tide: there goes a well-known saying. ‘Time and tide wait for none.’ It means that both time and tide have a nature of going on and on never to come back. Yet there is a difference between the two. Tide does not flow in vain. It makes land fertile while flowing. But time, if not spent, properly, leaves nothing behind. It makes life barren like deserts.
Time and students: students are the future hope and strength of the nation. Their life is the life of preparation-preparation for the struggle of life. This is why; time is most valuable to them. They should act upon the maxims: ‘as you so, so will you reap’ and ‘a stitch in time saves nine’.
Time and great men: all the great men of the world made the best use of their time. They left their ‘footprints on the sands of time’ by making proper use of their time. It is true in the case of nations too. The history of t eliding nations of the world tells us that they have made and are still making the proper use of their time for bringing about all-round development.
Proper use of time: the proper use of time is the secret of success in life. Our motto of doing work should be ‘now and not tomorrow,’ because tomorrow is not working less. We should, therefore, ‘take the time to the forelock.’ Let me quote the words of the poet,
“Little drops of water, little grains of sand;Make the mighty ocean, and the pleasant land.”
Punctual use of time: a sense of punctuality of using time is a great blessing. We must do the right thing at the right time. To quote a proverb, hit the iron while it is hot”. We should not put off anything until tomorrow what we can do today. It is because many an undesirable situation may crop up tomorrow and upset everything. It is therefore wise for us to ‘make hay when the sun shines’. This is the way, we can make our life smiling with milk and money.
Importance of value of time: the importance of the value of time is too much to be described in words. Time never breaks its journey to eternity. It goes on and on and does never look back. It is rightly said that lost wealth may be regained by hard labour, lost health by following the rules of health erectly but the time we would live until tomorrow. Hence we should always remember the wise saying and work accordingly:
“Trust on future, however pleasant;Act, act in the living present.”
Conclusion: thus we find that our success and happiness in life depend on the proper use of time. Hence we should make the proper use of every moment of our lives so long we are alive. We should follow the maxim minutely.
“Work while you work, play while you pay.And that is the way to be happy and gay.”
