Introduction: Bangladesh is rich in fruits of various kinds. Of all the fruits that are most common and favorite in our country. Jackfruit is undoubtedly the most remarkable one. It is our national fruit. It is my favorite fruit.
Season of this fruit: the jackfruit grows in summer.
Blossoms: In late winter the jackfruit trees begin to blossom. Within a month or two we see the blossoms turn into small jackfruits. They are then called `Echer’. They are ripening in summer.
Size, shape, color, and taste: The jackfruit can be very big in size. It can be called a giant among fruits. It has rough and prickly skin. The color of this skin remains green when it is young. But when it is ripening, it becomes yellow or brown. Under the skim, the fruit is found to be composed of many flakes. Each of the flakes contains a seed. The flakes are golden in color. They are sweet to taste.
Where grown: The jackfruit grows in all districts of Bangladesh. But it grows in plenty in the districts of Dhaka, Mymensingh, Sylhet, and Comilla.
Popularity: The jack is a common fruit of Bangladesh. So, it is easily obtainable. It is liked by all irrespective of children, youths and old persons.
Nutritive value: The jackfruit is a great source of vitamins but very difficult to digest. So, it is not at all a good fruit for the children and the old men.
Its various uses: Various kinds of tonics, jarris, and fellies are made of jackfruits. The seeds of this fruit are a great source of protein. We eat them by boiling. The curry of `Echer’ is also very popular to the Bangladeshis. It is very tasty.
Conclusion: The jackfruit is the most important fruit in our country. But it is a matter of great sorrow that its production in Bangladesh is not up to the mark. So, we should try to increase its production for our greater interest.
