Answer: Flood is one of the natural calamities in our country. It occurs almost every year here. It brings untold misery and sufferings to the people of this country. It washes away crops. It destroys houses and kills animals and human beings. People suffer from the accommodation. They take shelter on highlands, housetops, or trees. There are some reasons for the flood. It generally appears during the monsoon. Some big rivers flow through Bangladesh. Sometimes heavy rainfalls cause floods. Another important cause of the flood is the direct effect of the Farakka Barrage made by India on the Ganges. The flood damages the crop and communication system by inundating the fields and roads. However, the flood has some good effects. It makes the land fertile when new silt is deposited and helps grow good crops. Waste materials and human wastes are washed away and the environment becomes neat and clean. This is the benefit we get from the flood.

Answer: Bangladesh is a low land. It has many rivers. She is also in the monsoon area. It rains heavily during the monsoon period. So, floods are very common in our country. Almost every year flood visits our country. It causes heavy damage to our lives and properties, Houses are destroyed. cattle are washed away, crops are greatly damaged and trees are uprooted. Thousands of people become homeless or shelterless. They remain without food for many days. All communication from the outside world is cut off. The flood of 1998 broke the records of the past. Never before did the water level rise so high nor was the duration so long. The whole country went underwater. All communication was cut off. Normal activities were stopped for a long time. The miseries of 057,1 of the affected people knew no bounds. Crops were greatly damaged. Herds of cattle were washed away. Thousands of people died. All the rivers should be excavated and a good drainage system should be introduced. A large number of sluice gates and outlets should be made for the easy passing of rainwater.
