Gender Inequality
Answer: Gender discrimination means discriminatory treatment against the female. it begins with the birth of the female child. The worst sufferers are the divorced women and the widows. The main reason for this degrading situation is that the women are not wage-earners and they have to depend on the male members of the family for their livelihood. The. other reasons lie in familial and social attitudes. The parents think that the female child will go away into another family as a wife in due course of time and will not contribute anything to the family’s welfare. The society considers the women to be weaker in strength and wisdom. So, they are faced with discrimination in the spheres of employment and career building. The society also thinks that they must do household chores and raise children. So, they are not allowed to go out of home and are not given the light of education. As such they cannot develop strong personalities and are not associated with decision-making. A female child is welcomed into the family with disaffection because she is regarded as nothing more than a burden and a liability. This problem of gender discrimination can be solved by creating general awareness among people about the talents and importance of females and removing social superstitions prevailing against them. When the women are properly educated, they will be able to prove their worth and then the unmerited discrimination against them will automatically vanish.

Question: Write a paragraph on ‘Gender Discriminants’ by answering the questions given below.
- What is gender discrimination?
- How are the females treated in our society?
- What are the causes of it?
- What are its bad effects?
- How can it be reduced?
Answer: Gender discrimination means the disparity between men and women. This kind of discrimination is a great problem for our male-dominated society. Poverty, ignorance, and superstition are the reasons for gender discrimination. Generally, poor parents take more care of the male children. The parents think that the sons would be able to take care of them in their old age. They believe that girls are born to do domestic work in their parents’ and husband’s houses. So, the poor parents of Bangladesh prefer their sons to their daughters. Generally, male can do harder works for their physical strength. Females are thought to be inferior. This discrimination has been created by our male-dominated society. Social customs and prejudices have degraded women’s position in society. They are also deprived of their rights given by law and religion. Women have proved their worth in agriculture, mills, and factories, and even in administration. So, we should change our mentality and try to reduce gender discrimination by raising awareness among people and removing social and political prejudice.
